150 Lashes ... but not with a flogger lol....

cassie from "...with a sense of pride" put up a great post recently showing how subtle BDSM awareness can be. I thought of her post when sol came home a few days ago with a six pack of a newly launched beer called One Fifty Lashes, lol.

How did it's creators James Squire come up with this particular name?

"The Lashes name is based on the true story of James Squire being discovered stealing ingredients from the hospital stores soon after his arrival with the first fleet, in order to make one of colony’s first batches of beer. The magistrate ordered 300 lashes… and he received 150 with the remainder to be served “when he could bear it”. James never received the balance of his sentence most likely because his attempts at brewing had proven so promising."

What about the beer itself?

"Lashes is a refreshing cloudy pale ale with restrained bitterness and a clean, smooth finish. We’ve used malted wheat as well as pale barley malt to add balance to the finish, while the late addition of Nelson Sauvin & Amarillo and also some Australian grown Willamette hops deliver a subdued fruity nose with hints of passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus.

"While modeled along the guidelines of the Australian Pale ale style in both appearance & degree of hoppiness, in true James Squire fashion we could not resist adding our own little twist. Lashes Pale is aimed at 4.2% alcohol, technically aligning it more toward the English Bitter Ale style."
