Vibrating Sound - first play

Regular readers will know we are urethral play addicts, and have been lusting after a vibrating sound for a while. On my birthday we visited S(A)X in Byron Bay and checked out the ones S(A)X stock:

They looked great and I loved their red and black cases. S(A)X's website says:

While we were looking at them Steve Sax showed us another vibrating sound, a similar one that he'd been sent by another manufacturer. Would we give this sample a try? Would we ever. Thank you Steve :)

We couldn't wait to try it. Once home, we assembled a tray with a clean towel, tissues, lube and the sound:


I washed my hands with antibacterial gel, did the same with the sound (as it doesn't reach the bladder we needed hygienic but not sterile play conditions) and then we retired to bed. I sat cross legged, next to sol. I moved his PA ring back:


Then lubed up the sound:

Still not turning the device on, I fucked him gently for about 20 seconds, and then I turned it on. sol found the sensation not exactly pleasurable but intense. Obviously this toy was going to have a lot of potential....

After about 30 seconds of holding it steady in him, I moved the sound gently up and down for about another 30 seconds. Then suddenly sol (Mr I Never Safeword) safeworded. "Take it out!!" I did, as fast and carefully as I could. As I did, the metal side brushed against the index finger that was holding sol's cock upright. "Ow!" I yelped, "I'm burned! How the fuck can THAT happen???". We checked out how it was constructed (the next three photos were taken by me the next day):


It's very simple. It's made of several pieces of metal, with a solid shaft, and room for a single AAA battery in the top:


There is no on / off switch - tightening the screw top completes the battery connection:


Not much to go wrong. And if you look at the design of other vibrating sounds on the market, from lots of different vendors, they share the same basic construction.

Sure, if we'd had the thing running half an hour, it might overheat, as our friend dunalot reminded us later:

"Don't let it run for too long at any one time. Many a good vibrating toy has stopped working through overuse .... seems the motors are sometimes not durable enough for marathon sessions"

We've all heard horror stories of vibrators overheating - for example this reviewer re the "unruly rabbit" vibrator noting:

"It actually sparked. It over heats and has NO place being near your lady parts. Do not buy this vibrator, ever"

But sounds? Certainly being metal wouldn't help, but it had been less than five minutes....

Time for a few tests. We put the battery back in, but a different way and let it run for over 5 minutes. No heat. We reversed the battery so it was the same way as when the problem occurred, and turned it on for over 5 minutes. No heat.

We looked at each other. This toy was too much fun not to try again, so I turned it on again, and off we went...

I began using it externally. I tried it on sol's nipples:

All of which he enjoyed. As there was no apparent heat build up I lubed sol up and entered just a little of his urethra:

The next day I went online and googled "vibrating sound overheating" and similar words. Nothing. I tried "vibrating sound review". Again, not much, although I did find a couple of very positive reviews on the Bondara site:

"This sound not only does its work when I insert it, it also vibrates. I've used plain sounds before but nothing like this. The sound is a good size for me. It fits perfectly inside me and makes me VERY hard. The vibrations make the experience even better. The only problem I have is that I come very fast and very hard, as if that's a problem. The ring at the end makes for easy retrieval or I add a weight to get extra stimulation. This is a fine sound and I enjoy using it very much.

Which confirms what we've heard from friends: everyone really likes vibrating sounds :). But it didn't help explain our incident, so I headed to the Sounding and Urethral Insertion group on Fet and asked had anyone else experienced this problem?

So far, no one seems to have encountered this. Steve_C noted:

"Hmm, never ever seen that happen. I can imagine it was a tad upsetting. Wonder if there was a wee electrical short circuit happening, a wire 'wisp' that has now burned thru? They certainly shouldn't overheat, and I've used them inserted for quite long periods, vibrating while passing TENS current thru them happy evil grin"

We think he's right about that " wee electrical short circuit happening, a wire 'wisp' that has now burned thru". It makes sense, because the toy is now working perfectly.

The vibrating sound is a really great additional to your toy box and even after this experience we would recommend purchasing it. We are the only people who seem to have experienced this problem, so it's unlikely to occur. But because the consequences could have been really severe we think it's important to let our readers know what happened.

Don't let this put you off buying one. We'd simply suggest you give your new toy a couple of quick safety tests before you play with it:

• Give it a good clean in and out after purchase
  

• Insert the battery both ways and run it for a while, just to check if there is any heat build up

• Then during your first play keep it external for a bit first, while checking for heat

• Make sure your play partner is not gagged. You want him able to communicate quickly if something goes wrong.
