Musings: why do we chose the names we do?

Solipsism: (Latin: solus, alone + ipse, self)

1. The theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified
2. The theory or view that the self is the only reality

Solipsism is a philosophical theory that everything is in the imagination, and there is no reality outside one's own mind. As a philosophical theory it is interesting because it is internally consistent and, therefore, cannot be disproved. But as a psychological state, it is highly uncomfortable.

Solipsism Syndrome is a pathological psychiatric condition involving dissociative mental states - a state of mind in which a person begins to feel that everything is a dream. Even friends are not real. People feel detached and increasingly isolated, and eventually become indifferent to the world around them, and those who love them.

Of course, I've always wondered about yours. What significance does the number 160 have for you?

I used to belong to the Solipsist's Club, but we eventually disbanded for lack of interest.

Well...this post obviously has special meaning for me. So a little story about the name of my blog.

i was once considering a relationship with an incredibly intelligent man. At one point in our learing one another, he said to me, "You're so submissive you're almost solipsistic."

Now, i had no idea what it meant at the time. And, of course, after i researched it, i was a bit insulted, and told him so.

He merely smiled, patted me on the head and said, "Silly girl. I simply meant that you cannot conceive of not being someone's everything."

i was only slightly mollified.
